DIY Color Glass Candlesticks
Patterned taper candles, graphic candles in a variety of shapes, and candlesticks of all kinds are everywhere at the moment–in stores, on social media, and on every DIYers Pinterest board!
Just in the last year or so we’ve made:
The possibilities for creating with this classic home decor item are endless, affordable, and so much fun. That’s why, when we started noticing tinted glass candlesticks in our favorite home decor boutiques, we had to figure out a way to make create some for ourselves. Enter–Gallery Glass paint!
How do you color glass candlesticks?
If you’ve never used Gallery Glass paint before, it is meant to mimic the effect of stained glass. We tried it on a faux stained glass window and on a glass terrarium and loved the results, so we wondered how it might look when applied to glass candlesticks. Gallery Glass doesn’t dye the glass so it doesn’t dry perfectly clear and smooth.
Instead, it leaves a bit of a texture behind that makes it unique. Once we applied a few coats to our glass candlesticks we were hooked and had to try it in all of the colors we could get our hands on. The best part about this product is the barrier to entry is very low–you just paint it on and let it dry!
Supplies needed to make Color Glass Candlesticks
- Glass candlesticks (we got ours from a thrift store so that we would have a variety of shapes and sizes)
- Gallery Glass paint
- Paint brushes
- Taper Candles (These ones are SO cute!)
How to make a Color Glass Candlestick
Watch us make them on Instagram here!
Step 1. Squeeze the paint directly on the outside of the glass candlestick. Using a paint brush, paint until smooth over the area you would like covered. Let dry completely.
Step 2. Repeat step 1 and let dry completely. Repeat this process until you have reached your desired color intensity.
Step 3. Once painted and dry, insert candles and enjoy!
We told you–SO easy! The best part is that once you get the hang of it, you can grab glass for pennies from the thrift store and create a gorgeous candlescape in any color scheme or decor style for a fraction of the price of a home decor store. And just imagine how gorgeous they would be for a holiday table! The possibilities!
