Back to School Crafts: Animal Face Masks for Kids

School started for my kiddos this week and since they went back in an actual school building, face masks were on my back-to-school shopping list. And while I was so worried about how the kids would handle being masked all day, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how little it seems to bother them. I think that part of their success with masks is because kids are always more resilient than we give them credit for, and part is because they had REALLY cute masks to wear.

We made these animal face masks that are full of personality and are SO easy to make with your Silhouette CAMEO 4. Plus, the designs for them are already ready to go since they are a quick (and adorable) download from the Silhouette Design Store. Your kids are sure to get a kick out of getting to look like a shark or a kitty, which we hope will help to take the edge off any mask-wearing hesitancy they may have.

Here is how you make them:

How to make your own Animal Face Masks

Step 1: Dye your masks according to dye package directions. Then, wash and dry them.

Step 2: Download the files for your animal faces from the Silhouette Design Store into your Silhouette Studio library. Open the first design you wish to cut. Measure your masks, then size down your face design to fit the mask. Then, load your heat transfer vinyl into your CAMEO and send to cut your design. Repeat this process with the various layers of the face.

Step 3: Place the first layer of the animal face on the mask, carrier sheet side up. Press with a hot, dry iron for about 30 seconds. Gently lift one corner of the carrier sheet to determine if the vinyl has adhered to the fabric. If the vinyl comes up with the sheet, repeat ironing the design in 30 second increments until no vinyl lifts from the fabric. Once the vinyl has completely adhered, remove the carrier sheet.

Step 4: Align the second layer of the design over the first layer, carrier sheet side up. Repeat the process of ironing from step 3, until the design is completely adhered. Then, remove the carrier sheet.

That’s it! Aren’t they the most fun? They are sure to make your kiddos laugh and add a bit of levity to the adjustment of mask wearing.Back to School Crafts: Animal Face Masks for Kids + a tutorial featured by Top US Craft Blog + The Pretty Life Girls
