This easy play makeup set is made from old makeup containers and filled with nail polish so that it can be used for hours of imaginative makeup play without the mess or expensive trips to Sephora!
If you have a young daughter at home then you have likely encountered the following scenario: Everything in the house is eerily quiet. You go from room to room searching for your daughter, until it hits you — the makeup drawer. You head toward the bathroom, round the corner and sure enough, there she is. Covered in blush. Lipstick in places it has no business being. Broken and smeared makeup casualties riddle the counter and floor. “I’m pretty!” she exclaims as she draws on her leg with a $30 eyebrow pencil. It’s cute. It’s infuriating. “Let them be little” you mutter to yourself through the gritted teeth of a forced smile. I mean, it is kind of adorable but MAN, that was an expensive lipstick.
Have you been there? Let us help! Here is what you’ll need:
Supplies needed to make a Play Makeup Set
Empty makeup cases (We used an old blush and eyeshadow case and an old lipstick tube or you can grab makeup from the dollar store and clean out the insides!)
Nail polish in various colors
Oven bake clay
Hot Glue Gun + Sticks
Makeup Brushes
Spray paint (if desired)
How to make a Play Makeup Set
Step 1: Clean out your cases to remove any excess makeup. Let dry completely.
Step 2: If desired, spray paint your containers to make them a fun color and remove branding. Let dry completely.
Step 3: Fill the sections of the blush and eyeshadow cases with your desired color of nail polish. Let dry completely.
Step 4: Make the lipstick by molding a piece of oven bake clay into the shape of lipstick. Before baking, make sure that the shape will fit inside of the lipstick tube you will be using. Bake the clay according to your package directions and let cool.
Step 5: If desired, paint the baked clay with nail polish. Let dry completely.
Step 6: Attach the clay lipstick to the inside of the empty lipstick tube using a hot glue gun.
Step 7: Put in a makeup bag and let your little one enjoy!
That’s it! Now your little makeup lover can pretend to play makeup for hours without any real cosmetics harmed in the process. Our girls love to pretend they are playing salon with everyone who will sit in their chair and we love that it is mess free.
Happy making!
