If you have followed this blog for a while, you know that we are lovers of tie-dye. Tie-dye is versatile and easy to use and it’s so fun to think outside of its traditional methods for application. So today we are rounding up ten of our favorite tie dye projects you need to make! Whether it’s your first time working with tie dye, or whether you are obsessed and use it all the time (like us), you’re sure to find something to inspire you. Here we go…
1. 5 DIY Tie Dye Bandanas
One thing we love most about tie-dye is how hard it is to mess up. For these bandanas, we played around with five different methods and they all turned out SO cute. We love how each of them are so unique and some of them don’t look like they were made with tie-dye at all!
2. DIY Shibori Cloth Napkins (Alice and Lois)
Shibori dying is super popular right now, and we love how Alice and Lois used bright pink instead of the traditional indigo. These dyed cloth napkins are the perfect way to add some color to your tablescape!
3. DIY Tie Dye Maxi Dress
Tie-dye screams summer, so it made perfect sense to use tie-dye to make a swim cover. This maxi dress came together for under $20 and is adorable with its pom-pom trim embellishments!
4. DIY Tie Dye Soap (A Beautiful Mess)
Soap-making is another one of our favorite crafts (see here, here, and here), and while this project involves zero tie-dying, the way this DIY soap mimics a swirly and colorful tie-dye pattern is so fun – perfect for gifting!
5. Reverse Tie Dye Shirt
Reverse tie dye is such a fun method, really similar to the standard variety, but instead of adding color, you are removing it from colored fabric. The result is really cool, and adds the tiniest bit of edge to your projects – like this reverse tie dye shirt!
6. DIY Shibori Throw Pillows (Room for Tuesday)
Can you believe that these gorgeous shibori pillows are easy and inexpensive to make? The varying patterns add just the right amount of personality to this cozy reading corner.
7. 4 Tie Dye T-Shirt Headbands
Before we made these DIY Tie Dye Headbands – made so easy with white t-shirts that were taking up space in the closet – we sort of felt like tie dye was reserved for hippie types who were past their prime. But after making them and seeing how adorable tie dye can be, we were officially hooked!
8. Reverse Tie Dye Jeans (Enthralling Gumption)
These reverse tie dye jeans are made with concentrated gel bleach and skewers, and can you believe how cute!? This is the perfect upcycle project for all those jeans you’ve been meaning to take to the thrift store.
9. DIY Dip Dye Ribbons (Ruffled Blog)
We never would have thought of dying ribbons, but this simple project has inspired us in a major way. Tie dyed or dip dyed ribbon is such a great way to add extra love and extra personality to any gift!
10. DIY Ice Dye Throw Blanket (Dans Le Lakehouse)
Ice dying is a method we’ve been dying to try, and this blanket is a perfect example of why. The natural texture and pattern from dying the blanket over ice is so cool and organic, and Tanya at Dans Le Lakehouse shares some really helpful tips for this method!
