When summer comes around, sometimes I get in a crafting slump since we spend so much time outdoors splash-padding and ice cream truck-ing, leaving less time to spend an afternoon in the craft room. However, I have found that textile crafts like knitting, crochet, and embroidery (which I sometimes think of as only cozy winter crafts) can also be perfect for the summer when you want to keep your hands busy! And this DIY Floral Embroidery is one of my favorite summer projects I’ve made!
Floral Embroidery Hoop Art on Mesh
Stitchable mesh is so fun to work with and is going to take your embroidery projects to the next level! Any negative space (unstitched) will be transparent, which means the embroidery will be reversible and so pretty!

Small beads (if desired)
How to make a Floral Embroidery
Step 1: Draw your pattern onto your mesh. I used a fine-tipped permanent pen and it worked great on the mesh! For the florals, I found a free pattern to use. Then, I drew on the eyes, cheeks and mouth freehand.
Step 2: Once you have drawn on the face, start stitching! I am a major beginner when it comes to embroidery so it’s always fun for me to try out new stitches. The writer of the pattern I used also suggests that this pattern is great for stitches like raised herringbone or woven spider webs!
Step 3: While you’re stitching, feel free to add some beading! I loved adding beads for extra dimension and interest, especially using beads for the eyelashes!
Step 4: Clean up the unfinished ends on the back, knotting and snipping them so they don’t show from the front. Then, cut the excess mesh around the hoop.
That’s it! Isn’t it darling? I love the gorgeous floral design coupled with the sweetness of the little face. This would be perfect in any girly space and makes me so happy whenever I see it.
What summer projects do you have up your sleeve? I’d love to hear about them!
Awwww!!! That’s super sweet!! At the moment I am hand quilting a table runner for a wedding gift.
I love these stitchable surfaces. The projects have all been so cute. I am working on some tee shirt quilts this summer for some birthday gifts.

This is so sweet. Cute face and lovely
flowers. I love the mesh because it has
exact places to put stitches.
That’s why I liked needlepoint.
If I tried to stitch free-hand some stitches
were too long, some too short, just a mess.
