When summer comes around, sometimes I get in a crafting slump since we spend so much time outdoors splash-padding and ice cream truck-ing, leaving less time to spend an afternoon in the craft room. However, I have found that textile crafts like knitting, crochet, and embroidery (which I sometimes think of as only cozy winter crafts) can also be perfect for the summer when you want to keep your hands busy! And this DIY Floral Embroidery is one of my favorite summer projects I’ve made!
Floral Embroidery Hoop Art on Mesh
Stitchable mesh is so fun to work with and is going to take your embroidery projects to the next level! Any negative space (unstitched) will be transparent, which means the embroidery will be reversible and so pretty!
Supplies needed to make a Floral Embroidery
Mesh/silk screen/tulle
Embroidery floss
Embroidery hoop
Embroidery needle
Small beads (if desired)
How to make a Floral Embroidery
Step 1: Draw your pattern onto your mesh. I used a fine-tipped permanent pen and it worked great on the mesh! For the florals, I found a free pattern to use. Then, I drew on the eyes, cheeks and mouth freehand.
Step 3: While you’re stitching, feel free to add some beading! I loved adding beads for extra dimension and interest, especially using beads for the eyelashes!
Step 4: Clean up the unfinished ends on the back, knotting and snipping them so they don’t show from the front. Then, cut the excess mesh around the hoop.
That’s it! Isn’t it darling? I love the gorgeous floral design coupled with the sweetness of the little face. This would be perfect in any girly space and makes me so happy whenever I see it.
Happy stitching!

Awwww!!! That’s super sweet!! At the moment I am hand quilting a table runner for a wedding gift.
I love these stitchable surfaces. The projects have all been so cute. I am working on some tee shirt quilts this summer for some birthday gifts.
Liz!!! This is so adorable!! I love her sweet little face and the florals are so pretty with the beads in them!! The mesh is so cute for this!
So sweet and cute!

This is so sweet. Cute face and lovely
flowers. I love the mesh because it has
exact places to put stitches.
That’s why I liked needlepoint.
If I tried to stitch free-hand some stitches
were too long, some too short, just a mess.
I don’t do Instagram so I won’t be able to enter.
I want to try all of the new products (new to
me – been a long time since I was in the
fabric section)
thanks for sharing.
This so lovely.

I don’t instagram, cut thought I would leave a note here. This a darling pattern. What did you do with all of the stray thread on the back?
That is one pretty face. So lovely. My Summer projects are travel scrapbook album, making cards, and having fun creating craft projects with my daughters.
Ooh, I’ve been wanting to try beads with my embroidery. This is so cute!
Love this project! I want to try the mesh for decorative item.
Boohoo– I am not on Instagram but love your face project.
This looks like such a fun project, I never thought to use a metallic mesh, but will give this a go!
