How to Make a DIY Stained Glass Suncatcher with Cellophane

February 19, 2020 DIY Projects, Kids

Today on Studio 5, we talked all about one of the biggest trends for 2020 – stained glass! Domino, Martha Stewart and Etsy have all agreed that stained glass is back in a big way, and we decided we wanted to try our hand at it! The only problem is that we have small children, which doesn't led itself to having shards of glass lying around, and, even if there weren't kids all in our business, doing the real work of gathering the materials and skills needed to weld glass together feels a bit overwhelming. So, in the segment we shared a few ways to fake it so that you can incorporate the trend into your life without any cut or burns. The first of them is a fun way to make this DIY stained glass suncatcher that will brighten up your space anywhere the sun shines. We'll show you how!

How to Make a DIY Stained Glass Suncatcher

Step 1. Cut your cellophane sheets into triangles (or any shape you desire). Set aside.

Step 2. Remove the inner hoop of your embroidery hoop.

Step 3. Roll out a sheet of contact paper that is as wide as the hoop, plus about an inch. Remove the backing from the contact paper and place sticky side up on a flat surface.

Step 4. Place the inner hoop of your embroidery hoop on top of the contact paper.

Step 5. Place the cellophane triangles on the contact paper inside the embroidery hoop (they should stick well to the contact paper).

Step 6. Lift the hoop and the contact paper and carefully place inside the outer hoop of the embroidery hoop and tighten at the top to secure.

Step 7. Cut any excess contact paper along the edge of the embroidery hoop, using scissors.

Step 8. Hang and enjoy!
