I am sooo excited to tell you about today’s project! I am always looking for fun and unique storage solutions for my house (hello… toddler tornadoes a gazillion times a day), and am completely obsessed with this colorful basket! It is a great catch all for anything that needs a place, but is also such a cute decorative element for any room.
The star of this post is the new FolkArt Ultra Dye, which is just launching in stores and is a water-based, non-toxic product for dyeing wood and natural fibers. It comes in 14 bright colors, but allows wood grain to show through. Using the Ultra Dye brushes, you can easily apply an even color or create ombre effects. You can even use it with stencils! The varnish product provides added protection and adds a satin finish to surfaces.
I love how using the Ultra Dye turned an ordinary basket into this vibrant one! Here is what I did…
Supplies:
FolkArt Ultra Dye products
Darice Wooden beads
Basket (unfinished fibers)
Yarn
Step 1: Paint the wooden beads. Apply the varnish after the color has dried.
Step 2: Stitch the beads on the basket using yarn.
Step 3: Paint the basket.
Step 4: Create tassels by wrapping yarn, tying the middle, and cutting the edges.
Step 5: Add beads to the tassels.
Step 6: Tie the tassels on the basket’s handle.
Isn’t it so fun!? All the bright colors! The fluffy tassels! The dimensional beads! I love how it looks storing some books and toys in my family room…
What would you make with FolkArt Ultra Dye? We’d love to hear your ideas! And be sure to follow Plaid on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and on their website as they celebrate 40 years of crafting with more amazing product launches!
