Halloween Costume Ideas: DIY Cotton Candy Costume for Kids
If your kids are anything like ours, they change their minds about Halloween costumes every day in October. We’ve learned that it can sometimes be easier to wait until the last minute before committing to a costume, and lucky for us (and you!), there are some really fun costumes that can be thrown together in no time at all. One of our favorites is this DIY Cotton Candy Costume (inspired by this amazing tutorial)! It is super inexpensive to make, comes together so quickly, and could not be sweeter (pun intended)! Keep reading for the full tutorial!
Supplies needed to make your own DIY Cotton Candy Costume
Long sleeve white shirt
16 oz polyester filling
Light blue spray paint
Spray adhesive
White poster board
Hot glue
Ribbon
Leggings, sweatpants, or tights and shoes
How do you make a cotton candy costume?
Step 1: Spread out the polyfill on newspaper or cardboard. Spray it lightly with spray paint. Let dry completely.
Step 2: Put the shirt over a pillow or long box to get a visual of how it will look on a body. Note: I used a kids size XXL for a 5 year old so it would be dress length). Spray the shirt with adhesive and stick on pieces of the poly fill. Cover the shirt front and back. You can layer the polyfill on top of itself by adding more adhesive to make it as full as you’d like (the fuller the better).
Step 3: Cut a quarter circle out of poster board and roll it into a cone. Secure it with hot glue.
Step 4: On the open end of the cone, spray the adhesive and apply some of the polyfill around the edge.
Step 5: Attach two pieces of ribbon on opposite sides of the inside of the cone. You’ll use the ribbon to secure the cone hat on your child’s head.
Step 6: Add balls of polyfill to the toes of white sneakers.
Step 7: Put your child in the costume and be so happy because LOOK HOW CUTE! And just like that, you’re ready for the sweetest Halloween season!
Happy crafting!
