How has mask-wearing been for you? Have you found a brand you love? Now that we are coming to terms with mask-wearing as a part of our daily routine, I think I’ve entered a new phase where I feel like, if I have to wear them, they might as well be cute! And, given our obsession with the method, having a set of trendy tie dye masks is a no-brainer!
If you have been following our Instagram stories lately, you would have seen us trying out all kinds of tie dying techniques on these sets of cotton masks because they are so comfortable and take color beautifully! One of favorite sets that we tried out used a method of watering down the dye to make the color more pastel and subtle. We love how this set turned out, so we’re going to show you how to do it today!
Supplies Needed to Make Pastel Tie Dye Masks
100% Cotton Masks (We love these and they have a metal piece in the top to pinch over your nose!)
Rit Dye (We used this Rit Denim Blue and Rit Coral)
Rubber Bands
Squeeze Bottles (we found ours at the dollar store)
How to Make Pastel Tie Dye Masks
Step 1. Pinch and twist your masks and secure the twists with rubber bands. (I was only able to fit 2-3 twists on each mask.)
Step 2. Add about a half-cap full of dye to your squeeze bottle and fill with water. Shake the bottle well to combine and squeeze a bit of the dye on a paper towel or white scrap fabric to test the shade. If you would like the shade to be lighter, pour out a bit of the dye and add a bit more water.
Step 3. In a stainless steel sink or bucket, squirt the masks with the dye. We like squirting the design instead of submerging the masks in dye for this method because it lets us control where the dye goes. We did one mask with one color, one with another and one with both colors.
Step 4. To keep the colors light, remove the rubber bands and rinse the masks right away. Then, wash and dry.
That’s it! These are now our favorite masks in the house, everyone fights to wear one! Plus, since they are 100% cotton you can try out your other favorite dye methods and have a rainbow of mask options to choose from!
