My bird-obsessed, pink-loving little girl turned two last week (insert all the tears – stop growing up!!!!). So when we were planning a little party for her, a flamingo theme was the natural choice! These DIY Flamingo Cake Toppers were the perfect way to dress up the birthday cake to fit the theme. They’re super easy to make, but look how cute they are! Keep reading for the tutorial…
DIY Flamingo Cake Topper Tutorial
Here’s what you need to make your DIY Flamingo Cake Topper:
Pulsar Pink Astrobrights Cardstock
Cutting machine/scissors
Skewers
Pink feathers
Black vinyl (or paper or marker)
Light pink vinyl (or paper)
Hot glue gun
Step 1: Cut the paper in the shape of flamingos. I used a cutting machine and this design, but you can also cut a flamingo silhouette by hand. You’ll need two cutouts for each cake topper.
Step 2: Add a face to half of the flamingos using adhesive vinyl, paper, or marker/pens. These will be the front of the toppers, and the remaining blank cutouts will be the back.
Step 3: Attach a front (face) flamingo and back (blank) flamingo to each skewer, using hot glue.
Step 4: Use hot glue to attach a feather (or two) to each DIY flamingo cake topper.
That’s it! Now you’re ready for the cutest and easiest cake decorating of your life. Just stick the DIY flamingo cake toppers all over the cake!
Note: If you’re in Utah and looking for THE BEST cake around, the Sweet Tooth Fairy on Foothill in Salt Lake City can’t be beat. We had the Funfetti cake, with pink sprinkles only, and cream cheese frosting, and it was 100% the best cake I’ve ever had.
Happy crafting!
