DIY Pommed Espadrille Slides

This project was originally created for Consumer Crafts.

When I was doing some Anthro browsing the other day and came across these Soludos slides that look like a beach party on a shoe, I knew I needed them. However, upon seeing the $100 price tag, I decided I could make my own for a fraction of the cost, and guys, it was SO much fun. I am such a lover of making pom poms, and playing with all of these bright colors during the process really did the trick. Here’s how to make your own DIY Pommed Espadrille Slides:

Supplies Needed:
Solid Espadrille Slides (I found mine here for under $12!)
Black and White Mosaic Ribbon
Tassels for Jewelry Making: Dark Blue Thread Tassels
Tassels for Jewelry Making: Dark Pink Thread Tassels
Easy Knitting Pom Pom Maker Set
Lily® Sugar and Cream® Yarn: Tea Rose
Lion Brand® Vanna’s Choice® Yarn: Mustard
Red Heart® Super Saver® Yarn: Cherry Red
18 Surebonder® Fabric Glue Sticks: 4 inches
Glue gun
Scissors

Step 1: Make your pom poms. Using the Easy Knitting Pom Pom Maker Set is a breeze and this video is a great reference if you have never made your own before. Use scissors to cut and shape them. Set aside.

Step 2: Heat up your glue gun. Remove beads from tassels with scissors. Place two large circles of glue at the top of the tongue of the shoe and press tassels into them. Hold until secured.

Step 3: Measure ribbon to fit over the tongue of the shoe plus about an inch on each side. If you are using the same Black and White Mosaic Ribbon that I did, fold ribbon in half, short sides together, to make the ribbon thinner, and connect with a line of glue inside the ribbon. You could also achieve this by cutting the ribbon in half and applying some fray stop if you’d like.

Step 4: Using your glue gun, place a thick line of glue across the tongue of the shoe and the top of the tassels. Press ribbon into the glue, leaving an inch on each side, and hold until set. Then, place a dot of glue on the underside of the excess ribbon on each side of the tongue of the shoe and fold under the tongue of the shoe, securing the ribbon inside and hiding the ends of the ribbon.

Step 5: Attach your pom pom just under the ribbon with a large dot of glue on each. Hold until set.

That’s it, friends! Now you have your own set of adorable slides that are like summer on a shoe! If it’s cold where you are, you can just slide these babies on to walk around the house, dreaming of warmer days to come. Or, if you have a beach vacay on the calendar you are going to look beyond adorable strolling around a boardwalk in these. I’m so obsessed with every detail and love that I didn’t have to hurt my bank account by buying the Anthro version. These would be so much fun to make on a girl’s night with lots of different color options of yarn and tassels since they are endlessly adaptable!

They are just the happiest shoe, don’t you think? Total party.
