DIY Color Blocked Mega Glitter Heels

For the last week we have had the best time being together as Liz visited in Utah! It has given us so much time to squeeze each other’s babies, eat lots and lots of sugar, and knock out some DIY ideas we have been dreaming about. One of those projects you can see today on a Facebook Live (see the video above if you missed it live!) in collaboration with Plaid Crafts, where we will be making the sparkliest of projects — DIY Color Blocked Mega Glitter Heels! If you are a regular reader of this blog than it’s likely that you know about our affection for all things Mod Podge, and today’s project uses a new formula that is changing the glitter game: Mod Podge Mega Glitter!

Mod Podge Mega Glitter is not your average sparkly product — this baby has an intense glitter finish with a gorgeous shimmering, lustrous shine. Plus, this product adds an extra dramatic glitter finish because it has four different sized glitter particles for more sparkle and more coverage! When we started talking about this project we were unsure if it would work because we wanted a glitter finish so dense it mimicked a glitter fabric, and we were blown away when we saw the way it set. The results you’ll have with Mod Podge Mega Glitter are stunning, and no one is going to believe that these shoes are DIY when they see the finish for themselves. So, let’s get some get some sparkle in your step! Here’s how you do it:

Supplies Needed:
Mod Podge Mega Glitter (We used each of the varieties on the shoes below, but used the hologram variety in the step by step images.)
Foam Craft Brush
Plain Heels (We used these)
Painter’s Tape

  1. Prepare the shoe by covering the rubber sole with painter’s tape.
  2. Using a foam brush, apply your first coat of Mod Podge Mega Glitter to the heel, back, and strap of the shoe. We found that the glitter went on the most evenly and with the best coverage if we applied it by dabbing the brush, not spreading it from side to side. Let the glitter dry 20-30 minutes between coats or until it is no longer cool to the touch.

2. Apply a second coat of the Mod Podge Mega Glitter to the heel, back and strap of the shoe and let dry completely again. Once dry, apply a third coat, if desired. Let dry completely.

Friends, that’s REALLY it! Can you believe how easy it is to get these gorgeous results with no extra sealing or difficult steps required!? We are completely blown away by what this product can do. Just imagine the possibilities! This stuff can be applied to wood, tin, terra cotta, canvas, papier mache, glass or ceramics (glazed or bisque), rigid plastic, and DUH…even the sassiest heels. Plus, as always with much of the fab line of Mod Podge products, Mod Podge Mega Glitter is dishwasher safe, water-based, non-toxic, and made in the USA. Honestly, it’s pretty much my new boyfriend and things are SERIOUS.

We are obsessed with the instant glam Mod Podge Mega Glitter gave these shoes, making them perfect for a party, wedding, or sassy night out. Every finish is stunning (just look at the way the gold and silver shine!) and the possibilities for jazzing up your closet are endless. We love the idea of getting a bunch of bridesmaids together to add some sparkle to their shoes before the big day, or adding a pop of sparkle to a pair of heels you never wear that could use a new life. Plus, this stuff works great on jewelry, other fashion accessories, decor projects and more. So, start making room for some serious sparkle in your life. You’re gonna be hooked.

Are you ready to add some sparkle to your step? We can’t wait to see what you make. And for more Mega Glitter inspo from Plaid Crafts, be sure to follow them on FacebookInstagramPinterest, and via Email!
