Now that we have tie dyed everything from tote bags and clothes to pillows and hair accessories, it’s time to try tie dyeing the fabric you spend the most time in — your sheets!
Now, if you think tie dye is only for tshirts it’s time to think again! This is such a fun and easy way to bring the trend into your home decor and we’re going to teach you how to do it using the ice dye method which helps tone it down and give it a stylish, marble-like effect.
Plus, we’re going to be using The Purple Sheets to make it happen which are the softest, stretchiest, and most durable sheets around, made with the most wonderful, high-quality fabric (truly, angels sing when your skin hits these babies)! Here’s what you need:
Supplies needed to make your own Ice Dye Sheets
The Purple Sheets
Soda Ash
Cooling Racks
Ice
Procion Dye – Gray
How to make your own Ice Dye Sheets
Step 1: Soak the sheets in soda ash according to the directions on the package. Soda ash is a fixative that activates and sets the dye.
Step 2: Place raised cooling racks in a bin or large container (I used three cooling racks – one for the fitted sheet, one for the flat sheet, and one for the pillowcases). Scrunch the sheets until they can sit on top of the rack, not touching the bottom of the container.
Step 3: Cover the top of the scrunched sheets with ice.
Step 4: Using a spoon, sprinkle the powder dye over all the ice. I used a full bottle of dye for the set of sheets.
Step 5: Let the ice melt completely. Double check that the sheets don’t touch the bottom of the container – you don’t want them sitting in the pooled dye as the ice melts.
Step 6: Once the ice has melted, rinse the sheets until the water runs clear. Then wash and dry them.
That’s it! Now are you just DYEING to get into these sheets? And isn’t this dye effect so COOL? (Because it uses ice, ya know?)
