This DIY Woven Wall Hanging was originally created for Consumer Crafts.
Woven wall hangings are one of my favorite trends right now. And while I love using a loom to create them, not everyone has that equipment for taking on this kind of art. So I thought I would share a work around for wall hangings that don’t require a loom or any expensive equipment. This DIY Wall Hanging came together in just a couple hours, and it is beautiful! Keep reading for the full tutorial!
Supplies needed to make your own wall hanging:
Yarn
Dowel
Scissors
Mesh Canvas (I used this, but you could also use something like this)
Step 1: Trim your canvas to fit the dowel.
Step 2: Wrap the yarn around your fingers a few times and cut. Depending on your mesh, you can adjust how many times you wrap your yarn. I wrapped five times so I could thread it through the holes, but also have them be snug.
Step 3: Pinch one end of your thread bundle and put it through one of the holes in the canvas.
Step 4: Pinch (you might need to twist) the other end and put it through the next hole.
Step 5: Repeat these steps to fill the canvas, alternating colors to create a pattern. I only had to thread every other row to make it look really full, but you can adjust to your preference.
Step 6: Add tassels to the bottom, or other areas of the wall hanging. Cut 4-5 strings of yarn to the same length. Fold in half. Thread it through a hole and then back through the hole below, holding on to the end so it doesn’t come all the way through. Pull the end through the loop to create a tassel.
Step 7: When you are done, attach your wall hanging to the dowel by threading yarn through the top of the mesh and tying it to the dowel.
Step 8: Attach a string to both ends of the dowel for hanging.
Isn’t the texture so great? I love how this turned out, and I love that no fancy equipment was required! This is the perfect project to work on while you watch a movie or listen to a podcast, and it will add so much interest to your decor!
Happy crafting!
xo, Sam
