How to make DIY Natural Turmeric Dye Tie Dye Onesies
Step 1: Add 2 cups of water and 2 Tbsp turmeric to a pot and stir. Simmer for 15-20 minutes. It should turn yellow.
Step 2: While the dye is simmering, soak the onesies in water, then bind them in a bunch with a few rubber bands.
Step 3: After the dye has finished simmering, turn off the heat, then submerge the onesies in the dye. Let them sit in the dye until they’ve reached the desired color.
Step 4: Use tongs to carefully remove the onesies from the dye, and rinse until the water runs clear. If, after rinsing, you’d like the color to be darker, just put the onesies back in the dye for more time.
Step 5: Remove the rubber bands from the onesies and let them dry.
Step 6: Wash and dry your onesies in the laundry.
Tip: If you are using natural dye for materials that will be washed frequently, the color will fade and/or change. You can improve the colorfastness of natural dye by treating dyed materials with a vinegar bath after dyeing.
Happy making!
