These DIY Twisted Birthday Candles are so fun and easy to make! Birthday cake candles become pliable within seconds of being submerged in hot water, allowing you to shape and twist them into adorable graphic designs!
If you follow us on Instagram then you’ll have noticed our recent obsession with the candle bending trend. Have you heard of this? It all started for us after some innocent, mindless scrolling on Tik Tok and has resulted in us bending every candle we can get our hands on.
This trend typically has focused on taper candles for home decor (and we’ll have a post about those soon), but when we came across some longer candles for a birthday cake recently, we had to try the trend out on them and see if it worked. And guys, we could NOT be more obsessed. You can see video of how we did this in our Instagram highlights and keep reading for all the details!
Supplies needed to make Twisted Birthday Candles
Longer (4-6″) birthday candles
Hot (not scalding) water
Container to hold the water
How to make Twisted Birthday Candles
Step 1: Submerge the candles in hot water. (Hot enough that you can stand to touch it.) After 30 seconds to a minute the candles will become pliable.
Step 2: While keeping the candles in the water, gently bend them into swirls, squiggles and any shapes you can think of! To achieve twists, flatten the candles in the water with a glass and then twist! (You’ll notice that the glitter sadly came off of these once they were wet, so look for ones that are solid if you don’t want to deal with a mess!)
That’s it! Just let your candles dry and stick them in your cake! SO. MUCH. FUN.
These just make me so happy. I never knew that I needed more from my plain birthday cake candles, but now that I do, I’m never going back!
This is a perfect project for those that are less-than-skilled at cake decoration (um…US), and will make any plain cake instantly eye-catching! (You can also find a plethora of simple cake toppers to make any cake stand out right here.)
