Craft Tutorial: How to Make Clay Trinket Dishes for Kids

Are your kids little treasure hunters? Mine are. They can find a rock, coin or a piece of glass or plastic that only slightly resembles a crystal and be certain it is the most valuable thing they have ever laid eyes on. Then, we have to find just the right place to keep it safe from thieves! So today, we are making little clay trinket dishes made from oven bake clay that they can paint and make a home for all of their tiny treasures. They are so simple to make and your kids will love rolling them out, watching them turn solid and painting them! Here is what you need:

Step 1. Break you square of clay in half (Fimo clay already has a line down the middle and we just broke it in half at that line). Work it through your hands to warm it up and then shape it into a ball.

Step 2. Roll the ball out with your rolling pin until it is about a 1/8 of an inch thick circle. Cut it with a circle cookie cutter.

Step 3. Place the flat circle of clay in your bowl or ramekin. Place the bowl on a cookie sheet and bake the clay according to the package directions.

Step 4. Remove the bowls from the oven and let cool. Carefully remove the clay from the bowls.

That’s it! Such a fun way to get creative with your kiddos and find a place for their treasures. These are also perfect if they want to keep a lost tooth safe. You could even paint one with a tooth on it as a place to keep teeth for the tooth fairy! The possibilities are endless and the results are adorable.
