Desperately searching the internets for something, ANYTHING, to keep your kids busy for 15 MINUTES WHILE YOU TAKE A DANG SHOWER? We feel you, and today I think we have just the thing. Remember last month when we stopped by Studio 5 for a fun segment on faux stained glass? One of our favorite projects that we shared during that segment were some DIY tissue paper lanterns that are the perfect craft for kids! All you need to make them are a couple super basic craft supplies and before you know it you’ll (finally) be getting that long awaited shower and your kids will have their maker wheels turning. Here’s how you do it:

How to make DIY Tissue Paper Lanterns
Step 1: Cut your tissue paper into various shapes using scissors. Anything goes with this step! We did stripes, squares, and terrazzo shapes.
Step 2: Using a paint brush, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge on the exterior of the jar, where you would like to attach the tissue. (The Mod Podge will be white when it is applied but will dry clear.)
Step 3: Press the tissue shapes into the Mod Podge on the jars. Use fingers to smooth the tissue into the Mod Podge.
Step 4: Let jars dry completely and then fill them with candles, faux tea lights, or sit them next to a window where the sun can shine through them!
That’s it! So simple and easy! We love using Mod Podge for this project because it is water-based, so if kids get a little messy with it, it is totally washable!
These would be so pretty for anything from a centerpiece to a holder for make-up brushes or pens! You can play around with the color schemes you use to create just the right aesthetic, or let kids go crazy with every color in the rainbow.
What projects are you doing to keep your kiddos busy while isolating? We’d love to hear all of your ideas!
Happy Making!
