It’s March! And it snowed yesterday! Spring is such a tease and always comes when, and only when, it feels good and ready to show up. So, since we can’t count on spring making its appearance just because the calendar might say is should be on its way, I’m going to start making spring in my craft room! Today we are making an adorable, colorful and egg-cellent 3D Wooden Egg Easter Cake Topper, perfect for being the show-stopper of your spring party or the centerpiece at your Easter dinner. We repurposed these fun egg ornaments from Oriental Trading to make this cutie and we love the results. Here’s how to make it:
Supplies needed to make your own Easter Cake Topper:
Egg Ornaments
Paint
Paint Brushes
Wooden Skewers
Hot Glue Gun + Sticks
Scissors
How to make your own Easter Cake Topper:
Step 1. Using scissors, cut off the hole on the top of the ornament where the string is supposed to go. The wood is very soft and it should come off easily.
Step 2. On each egg piece, paint half of the egg one color and half another. Continue on each egg piece, rotating through the colors. Once all of the egg pieces are painted, let dry completely.
Step 3. Carefully assemble the eggs to make them 3D by aligning one egg piece with a big slit and one with a small slit and sliding them together. Repeat until all eggs are assembled.
Step 4. Attach eggs to a skewer with hot glue and a glue gun.
That’s it! Just stick your eggs in a delicious cake and you are ready for a lovely spring soiree even if the weather isn’t ready to cooperate! We love the dimension these wooden egg ornaments give this project and it’s so easy to put together!
Do you have spring party plans up your sleeve? We’d love to hear all of your ideas!
Happy March making!
