Home Decor: DIY Felt Rainbow Wall Art

This Rainbow Wall Art was originally created for Darice.

We love the rainbow trend so much, we have to really control ourselves so every post we put on the blog isn’t rainbow-themed! They’re just so cute and bright, and we love using non-traditional colors and fun textures to make them more interesting! This simple DIY Felt Rainbow Wall Art is inexpensive and easy to make, but brings textures and colors together in the best way. Keep reading to see how we made it!

How to make your own DIY Felt Rainbow Wall Art

Step 1: First we’re going to make a reverse canvas. Using an Xacto knife, cut the canvas along the edge of the staples. Separate the canvas from the frame. You should be able to easily tear away the canvas that remains under the staples.

Step 2: On a canvas of this size, you will have a piece of wood that goes across the middle of the frame to provide extra support. Saw through the center of the middle piece, and pull it out from the sides of the frame so you are left with a wood rectangle. At this point you could paint or stain the frame, if you wanted, but we left ours natural.

Step 3: Lay the canvas on the back of the frame so the white side is facing inside the frame. Staple the canvas to the back of the frame. Hot glue would work too.

Step 4: Trim the excess canvas so nothing sticks out beyond the frame. Flip the frame so you have what looks like a framed piece of canvas.

Step 5: Cut a piece of felt in an arc. Cut the next color slightly smaller that the first. Repeat with each color, cutting it smaller than the color before.

Step 5: Using hot glue, attach the largest felt piece in the center of the canvas. Attach remaining colors, one on top of another, largest to smallest, to create a rainbow.

Step 6: Using matching floss, stitch around the edges of each color.

Hang on the wall using picture hanging strips, and you now have the brightest, cheeriest wall art, perfect for any kids room, playroom, office, etc.

Happy crafting!
