DIY Geometric Hair Barrettes

These Geometric Hair Barrettes were originally created for Consumer Crafts.

Everyone has a glue gun, scrapbook paper, glitter and paint in their craft room, but recently I discovered a craft room essential that has fallen under the creator radar: a big ole bag of wooden shapes. You can pick up this bag at Consumer Crafts and soon you will find that it has Mary Poppins-esque magic. We’ve used it to make earrings, we’ve used it to embellish a dollhouse, they are perfect for a crafternoon with the kiddos, and great for adding geometric interest to a planter. The list of uses for these shapes goes on and on, and no matter how many times I pull them out to use them, the bag STAYS FULL. I’m telling you, craft magic.

So, when I came across these adorable geometric Madewell barrettes, I knew just where I could turn to get the shapes to make my own.

Go get yourself a bag of magic shapes, then make yourself some sassy barrettes! Here’s how:

Supplies needed to make your own DIY Geometric Hair Barrettes:

Barrette Forms
Assorted Wood Cutouts
Multi-Surface Acrylic Paint
Mod Podge Gloss
Paint Brushes
Hot Glue

Step 1: If desired, paint barrette form white and set aside to dry.

Step 2: Paint wooden shape pieces. Apply two coats and let dry completely.

Step 3: Using a paint brush, apply a coat of Mod Podge to painted shape pieces to seal and give shine. Let dry completely.

Step 4: Attach shape pieces to barrette form using hot glue.

Aren’t they cute? And there are so many shape and color combinations you could create to make them your own!

We are big fans of the barrette trend but are even bigger fans of how easy they are to make. The possibilities for what you can glue on a barrette form (for pennies!) could not be greater, and guys, it’s so much fun.

Happy crafting!
