Heat Transfer & Embroidered DIY Sweatshirt tutorial featured by top US craft blog, The Pretty life Girls

The weather in NYC has been SO good the last couple of days. Gorgeous and sunny and even cool enough at times to require a jacket. A jacket, people! This must mean that jacket/cardigan/sweatshirt season is nearly here and I am 10000% onboard. After living in what felt like a swamp of humidity all summer, I couldn’t be more reader to layer like mad this fall. As a result, it’s time to get our sweatshirt game on point, so today I am sharing a FUN DIY sweatshirt project for making your own heat transfer sweatshirt with embroidery with this “Don’t forget to have FUN” sweatshirt! Here’s how we made it:

How to Make your DIY Sweatshirt:

  1. Cut out your file using your craft cutter on Expressions Vinyl Heat Transfer Vinyl (Don’t forget to mirror your image before cutting!). I love using this brand because there is such a HUGE range of colors, patterns, and textures and the quality is awesome. Use your weeding tool to remove the excess vinyl. (If you have never applied vinyl to a shirt before, this blog post gives AWESOME, more detailed instructions.)

2. Using a hot, dry iron, apply your vinyl to your sweatshirt by covering it with a towel and applying pressure to the iron for about 30-45 seconds.

3. Peel off your backing to reveal your design!

4. Using your embroidery needle and floss, stitch around your design to add a little dimension and interest! (I used a backstitch for all of my stitches.) Once you have finished, cut and tie off your stitches inside the sweatshirt and feel free to finish with a fusible fabric backing, if desired.
