We’ve come to the end of the road, dearest traveling partners. Today is the last post in our Outer Banks travel series with Seaside Vacations and I’m mourning the loss already. Today I’m going to show you a few of the things we did around OBX when we could pull ourselves away from the beautiful beaches! Here are some highlights:
1. The Waterfront Shops in Duck.
These little shops are more quaint than a bicycle with a basket. True to their name, they sit right on the water at the Currituck Sound. The Waterfront Shops include 18 boutiques and restaurants and its boardwalk connects to the main Duck boardwalk that travels all the way to the pier. The setting is perfection and I loved it SO much. Especially the ice cream. Get that pistachio, sister.
2. Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head.
Jennette’s Pier is an OBX historical landmark constructed in 1939 that has been updated to a state of the art, concrete pier that reaches1,000 feet out over the Atlantic Ocean. From the pier you can go fishing, take a stroll or view their several large aquariums! While we were there we saw a local fisherman catch and release a sting ray and we all pretty much lost our minds. That kind of excitement is trip making for a bunch of kids that live in Central PA, you guys.
Our friends at Seaside Vacations set us up for this must-do experience when in OBX. These tours embark from Corolla, at the last outpost before the road ends, and take travelers into nothing but stretches of wide beach to see the Corolla Wild Horses, descendants of the Spanish Mustangs brought to the New World by explorers as long ago as the early 1500s. Riding on a safari-style vehicle, these tours take you into the horses native habitat, giving you the chance to see these majestic beings and experience the other wild animals and vegetation of this area. It was amazing.

4. Bodie Island Lighthouse in Nags Head
You guyyyyys. All of my Anne of Green Gables feeling were off the charts with this one. Bodie Island Lighthouse is a complete stunner. The grounds surrounding the lighthouse are a mixture of marshlands, maritime forest and small saltwater ponds, and the views are breathtaking. Head over at golden hour and you will be stunned by the beauty.
TEARS. What a trip. It’s like I always tell my 4-year old (and he LOVES it), let’s not cry because it’s over, let’s smile because it happened. This advice would be much easier to take while relaxing on an OBX beach with more pistachio ice cream, but life is tough sometimes.
