Joe-Boy Hot Salsa

I live in State College, Pennsylvania, one of the biggest college football towns in the country. The stadium on campus is the third biggest stadium IN THE WORLD and holds over 107,000 people. WHAT? Needless to say, when college football season starts you can feel it in the bones of this town, so you’ve gotta be READY.

In our house we take our college football celebrations seriously, and they gotta include two things: Dr Pepper & Joe-Boy Hot Salsa. These two are the most perfect of football pairings, are great for feeding a crowd (the salsa is made in the crockpot and makes a bunch!), and both are full of delicious flavors to make your celebration great whether your team wins or not. Plus, this salsa has been a recipe in my family forever so it is well loved and outrageously delicious. Here’s how you make it:

Joe-Boy Hot Salsa

1 small onion diced
1 lb. hamburger
1/2 lb. pork sausage
16 oz. Salsa
16 oz. Velveeta cheese
1 small can tomato sauce
Tortilla chips
Optional: Diced tomatoes and green onions for garnish

In a skillet over medium heat brown hamburger, sausage and onion. Drain oils. Cut cheese into cubes. In a crockpot combine meat and onion, cheese and all remaining ingredients. Cook in crockpot on low until cheese is melted and the salsa is warm and bubbly, stirring often to combine ingredients. Top with tomatoes and green onions and serve with chips and Dr Pepper (duh).
