You know we are major fans of our Silhouette Cameo cutting machines, but sometimes it’s nice to take a short cut or two and create a simple vinyl project without having to open a computer. So today we’re sharing a super easy tutorial for creating some embellished DIY plant pots using vinyl that looks like it was cut from a fancy machine but only requires a circle punch and some scissors.
It’s definitely the vibrant color scheme that makes this project stand out and you don’t have to buy 5 rolls of vinyl to do it. You may not know that at your local Michaels Store in the vinyl/craft cutter aisle you can find shelves with individual sheets of vinyl that are a dollar or two, allowing you to try out lots of colors without investing in a bunch of big and expensive rolls! Your pots are going to look SO cute.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Supplies needed to make Embellished DIY Plant Pots
Plain Pots
Permanent Adhesive Vinyl Sheets
Scissors
Circle Punch
How to make Embellished DIY Plant Pots
Step 1. Punch circles out of the vinyl sheets using the circle punch.
Step 2. Using scissors, cut the circles in half and cut strips of vinyl to go around the pots.
Step 3. Press the half circles into the pot in a line all the way around the pot to create a scallop pattern.
Step 4. Press the cut strips of vinyl into the pots just above or below the scalloped pattern, as desired.
Step 5. Repeat steps until you have embellished the entire pot to your liking!
Aren’t they fun? One of my main sources of inspiration for these pots were these graphic ones from Anthropology, and I love that I was able to achieve a similar vibe for a fraction of the cost. Plus, there are so many different shapes of craft punches out there which really opens up a million possibilities for different patterns and designs that I want to try, not to mention all of the colors of vinyl available. What color scheme would you do?
Happy making!
