We have been having so much fun playing with different candle trends on our Instagram lately (you might have seen our blog post for DIY striped candles and DIY twisted birthday candles here on the blog as well) and today we are sharing the project that started it all — DIY funky twisted taper candles!
This trend caught my eye on Tik Tok and I was immediately sucked in because I’m obsessed with the graphic shapes you can create! To make it happen all you need are taper candles and hot water. Then, the hot water will make the candles pliable, allowing them to be bent to create unique and eye-catching silhouettes! I can hardly go inside a home decor store anymore without checking to see if they have candles I can bend and we know you’re going to be just as obsessed as we are once you try it. Here is what you need:
Supplies Needed to Make DIY Funky Twisted Taper Candles
Taper candles
Large container
Hot water
Rolling pin or mason jar
Step 1. Fill your container with hot water. You don’t want it to be boiling but will want to get it about as hot as your hands can stand to be submerged in.
Step 2. Put your candles in the water. I’ve found that the amount of time different candles will need to soak can really vary, so prepare to be patient. For some candles they might be ready to bend within a minute or two and for others it can take longer.
Step 3. Keeping your candles in the water (bending them in the water helps to prevent cracking and breaking), start to slowly bend one of the candles. If there is a lot of resistance let them sit in the water a little bit longer. If they seem to bend relatively easily, start bending them in your desired shape.
-To achieve the twist shape, flatten the candle with a rolling pin or mason jar first and then twist!
That’s it! Aren’t they just so weird and modern and pretty? Every time I walk by my set in their candlesticks they make me so happy. I mean, anything to brighten up and add fun to our houses while we’re stuck in them is a total win, if you ask me.
