Feeding kids is such a trip. It’s like they don’t understand that getting to sit down and eat is THE reason for living, ya know? Our dinner times regularly include my being accused of torture with a side of wailing and writhing, or they take 3 hours because my kids need to skip around the table, fight with their sibling, and tell me 30 things about Minecraft in between EACH BITE.
And all that doesn’t even include how hard it is to get kiddos to eat something that isn’t just white stuff with cheese melted in, around, or on it, ya know? That is why smoothies are such a gift. They are just a bunch of good stuff for your body masquerading as dessert and for now my kids are still falling for it. So, I thought I’d share one of our favorite simple and fruity applesauce smoothie recipes that is so delish and has no added sweeteners. Save the sweet sugar for yourself, parent. You deserve it.
Mixed Fruit Applesauce Smoothie
Ingredients – (Makes 4, 8 oz. smoothies)
2 applesauce pouches (We used these 3.2 oz Brainiac Kids Applesauce pouches)
1 Banana
1 c. Chopped Pineapple
2 c. Chopped Strawberries
1/2 c. Plain Yogurt
1 tsp. Vanilla
One handful of chopped spinach (if desired)
2 c. Ice
Directions
Combine all ingredients and blend until smooth. Add more or less of any of the included ingredients until you love it. Serve and enjoy right away.
That’s it! So delicious and full of fruit flavor and nutrients! Your kids will suck them down in a second and you’ll get to check off a morning during the pandemic where your kids had something that was actually good for them at breakfast instead of helping themselves to handfuls of OtterPops before you wake up. (Don’t ask.)
We love cutting some pineapple with a cookie cutter to use as a fun garnish and adding a colorful straw to make it a party.
What are your favorite simple smoothie recipes that your kids can’t help but gobble up? Spill the goods!
Happy making!
