I’ll admit, when all of the news about Covid-19 started to hit, I got a little spooked and bought a bunch of extra dried foods to fill up our pantry. This included loooots of dried beans and pasta and all the chocolate chips because, desperate times, ya know? So, now that we are deep into self isolating, we are doing our best to make everything stretch so that we don’t have to go to the store as often. This means that we are dipping into that same pantry, not only to make dinner, but to make crafts! You might have seen our post earlier in the week where we made art from dried beans, and today we are toddler crafting at another level – we’re painting pasta necklaces!
I really like this method for coloring pasta because it allows the adult to be in control and make a lot at once so your kiddo only has to decorate them. Plus, this makes a lot of pasta that you can save for other projects later! Here is how you make them:
Supplies for Painting Pasta Necklaces
Dried pasta
Paint + Brushes
Ziplock bags
String
Parchment paper
Tips for Painting Pasta Necklaces
Step 1: Place a portion of pasta in a ziplock bag with a squirt of paint. Seal the bag and work it through in your hands until the pasta is coated in paint.
Step 2: Lay out some parchment paper on a flat surface. Pour the painted pasta onto the surface to dry.
Step 3: Once the pasta has dried completely, let your child decorate the colored pasta using more paint and a brush. Or, simply let them move on to the next step if you want to make your life extra easy!
Step 4: Cut a length of string to put the noodles on. Tie a noodle on the end of the string to keep them from falling off while tiny hands are working.
Step 5: Tie off the necklace and enjoy!
That’s it! Such a fun and simple craft, all using supplies you likely have in your home right now. And there are so many other kiddo crafts you can do with the leftover pasta, from gluing it to paper to make shapes or stringing it up to make a colorful mobile.
