I had a fun opportunity to create a backdrop for Savings.com for a booth at a conference here in Utah last month. They asked me to gather a few ideas, so I jumped on Pinterest and found some inspiration. They loved the idea of a paper chain backdrop (inspired by this one from the House that Lars Built), and I was so excited to be able to put one together on my own! I love how it turned out, and it looked bright and fun and inviting at the conference! This is the perfect project if you want to make a show-stopping photo booth or party backdrop, and it can be customized to match any color scheme. Here is how I made my DIY Paper Chain Backdrop…

Here’s what you need to make your own Paper Chain Backdrop:
12×12 paper (see number of pages/colors below)
Paper slicer
Hot glue/glue gun
Photo backdrop stand
Step 1: Sort your paper by color. Here is a breakdown of the number of sheets we used for each color (from these paper pads):
- Blue: 9
- Light blue: 17
- Yellow: 18
- Green: 9
- Red: 26
- Pink: 10
- Light pink: 18
- Coral: 8
- Total: 115
Step 2: Use a paper slicer to cut each sheet into 2″ strips (six strips from each sheet).
Step 3: Using the paper strips and hot glue, create each chain following the pattern available for download at the bottom of this post (also inspired by the House that Lars Built because I found it soooo helpful): Note: If you will be assembling the backdrop somewhere else, it’s super helpful to number each chain on the inside of the top link for quick assembly.
Step 4: Following the pattern, arrange the chains on the backdrop stand (or dowel or wall or whatever you are using).
Aren’t the colors beautiful? In just a couple hours, you have the perfect backdrop for a party or booth! You could even make one to decorate a large wall!
