DIY Canvas and Glue Art

I know a lot of you have probably seen this DIY Canvas and Glue Art project all over Pinterest, but I actually made it for myself, and I had to share for a couple reasons:
  • Reason 1: It was so fun. If you are like me, I get half way into a DIY project and wonder what the heck I was thinking and I want to give up. Not the case with this
    project.
  • Reason 2: It is 100% customizable. You can make it classic, contemporary, red, yellow, green, blue, whatever you want.
  • Reason 3: It looks so pretty/cute/fancy in the end. I try to avoid DIY projects that look like DIY projects, and this nailed it for me. It really looks like something that could have been sold for lots of money at a boutique.

So, first off, here is what you will need:

Then you dive in! Find a pattern that inspires you, and draw it on the canvas with the glue. You can trace it lightly with pencil first if you want to be safe.

You could also use dimensional fabric paint for this project. If you use glue and find that it settles flatter than you want, you can just go over everything one more time once it has dried.

Once the glue is dry (I let mine dry overnight), spray paint the canvas the color(s) of your choice.

I liked the clean look of white on white.

Hang it up and be inspired! What design and/or phrase would you put on your canvas? We love to hear your ideas!
xo, Sam

I used Elmer's glue and when I came back after it dried, I found that dried flat on the canvas with no dimension. Would hot glue be an alternative or did I use the glue wrong?ReplyCancel

Not mentioned in the tutorial, the canvas is one you purchase (or make) that is stretched and treated with gesso (as in an artist's canvas) so that it doesn't soak up the glue.ReplyCancel

When I click on the “canvases” link, it pulls up “Goody Classics Metal Hair Barrettes, 2 3/8 Inches, 8 Count” on Amazon… Would you be able to update the link?ReplyCancel
