Road trip season! My favorite! Since moving to the east coast a few years ago I itch for the summer when everything turns green and we can pack up and go out and explore this part of the country. We love stopping at random hole-in-the-wall diners, visiting historical landmarks in the country, and driving to big cities. The funnest part of it all is having adventures with our little ones and seeing it all through their eyes. However, a successful road trip with kids under the age of 5 does require some rather meticulous planning in order to go over smoothly. A big part of this is packing lots of their favorite snacks like SWEDISH FISH Soft & Chewy Candy, TRIDENT Unwrapped Gum, Single Serve OREO Cookies, and HONEY MAID TEDDY GRAHAMS Graham Snacks! Add to that lots of fun activities (visit here for lots of fun road trip printables and tutorials!) they can do while in a car seat, and we’re ready to hit the road!
To make road-tripping with littles a little easier, today I’m sharing a tutorial for making fun road-trip activity totes, perfect for packing up with fun snacks and activities for your little ones, keeping them happy wherever your car takes you this summer! Here’s how I did it:
Supplies
Plain tote bag
Fabric
Heat transfer material or iron-on transfer paper
Silhouette Portrait
Heat ‘n Bond
1. Cut out your design! I cut mine using my Silhouette Portrait, but if you don’t have a craft cutter you can easily print out your design on to iron-on transfer paper and apply that way. Iron on to bag per heat transfer material or iron-on transfer paper package directions.
I loved coming up with this fun “Let’s Go!” design, perfect for road-trip fun.
2. Cut and apply your fabric! If you are a wiz with a sewing machine you can cut your strip and sew them on, but I am not so inclined so I used my trusty Heat ‘n Bond! To do this just cut your fabric, apply Heat’n Bond to the back using your iron, peel it back and then iron the strip onto your bag! Your Heat’n Bond package should have great directions if you have never used it before.
You guys! Can you believe it? Just two steps and you’re ready to pack up these babies and hit the road!
I guess if there was a step #3 to this project it would be to head to Walmart and load up on SWEDISH FISH Soft & Chewy Candy, TRIDENT Unwrapped Gum, Single Serve OREO Cookies, and HONEY MAID TEDDY GRAHAMS Graham Snacks. Plus, lots of games an toys to keep those little hands busy.
Find all of your road-trip essentials at Walmart and you’ll be ready to hit the road!
Find all of your road trip essentials at Walmart this summer! I mean, OREOS are a road-trip must. And be sure to keep an eye out for coupon booklets at select Walmart stores which include coupons for RITZ Cracker Sandwiches, BELVITA Sandwich Breakfast Biscuits, SWEDISH FISH Soft & Chewy Candy 1.9 lb. bags & TRIDENT Unwrapped Gum!
You’re ready to go! Where are you road tripping this summer? I’m dying to hear!
Happy travels!
