I love America all the time, but during the summer I am IN LOVE with America. It starts with Memorial Day, heightens with the 4th of July, and then one last 3-day weekend for Labor Day and I am feeling like America is Ryan Gosling. I feel so grateful to live in America and all the blessings that come with that. No, it’s not a perfect place, and yes we all still have our challenges. But in a world full of so many scary things, I am reminded every day that I have it SO good.

Becoming a mom to a micro-preemie turned amazing toddler has completely changed my perspective on what it means to live the American dream. While my dreams used to be shiny and high speed, now I see the blessings and goodness of the normal day. Mundane tasks on a day when my baby boy is healthy and smiling and my shoulders feel light are like little gifts showing me what life can be like after intense trials. For me, being an American dreamer means you can do hard things, not just survive them, but actually face them. Then, after the dust has settled, you can lift your head and still see possibility. Being an American dreamer means there is possibility in a day filled with pushing strollers, picking out the perfect watermelon, and putting babies to bed, just like there is possibility in the streets of the biggest cities, or in the classrooms of an ivy-league school. It’s always there, being an American dreamer just means that we look for it.

How awesome is that?!
