8 Tried & True Cabin-Fever-Busting Projects for Kids!

When it’s almost March and it’s still an average of 30-40 degrees outside and I find myself regularly fantasizing about leaving my current life behind for a new one on a tropical island, I know it’s time for a project to distract myself from endless winter. My kids are clearly feeling it too, seeing as how they have turned my entire home into a Ninja Warrior course to stay sane (this is why we can’t have nice things). We are sure some of you are feeling the same desperation, so we thought we’d pull together some of our favorite past projects that will keep little hands busy, get some creative juices flowing and MOST importantly, give mom and dad some (freaking) peace.

Let’s get to the projects!

  1. DIY Reversible Play Rug: This project is one my kids have loved in a major way. One side is a hopscotch board for jumping around and getting out wiggles and the other side is a city map where they can play cars and toys. It’s clever and fun and actually adorable in the playroom.

2. DIY Nesting Dolls: These dolls are one of my favorite DIY projects EVER. They are so easy to make since they use vinyl, and they are completely customizable! My daughter loved making these with me and loves playing with them even more. See how we made them right here.

3. DIY Graphic Sling Shots + Pom Poms: These sling shots are so much fun for kids to paint and decorate and by using pom poms as ammo, no one will be shooting their eye out. Find the tutorial here.

4. DIY City Block Table: This DIY city block table will get kids imaginations going in ways other toys can’t! They will love building their own cities for hours! See how we made it right here.

5. DIY Paint Brush Puppets + Puppet Theater: This project was so surprisingly awesome to make with the kids. The supplies are super cheap, and my kids loved creating characters for the puppets, painting and giving them faces and then putting on puppet shows for anyone who would watch! Such a good indoor activity that let’s them be creative.

6. DIY Modern Dollhouse: This dollhouse is such a cherished piece in our home and I loved making it myself because I could customize everything. This thing has been played with constantly since we made it and is definitely one of our playroom MVPs. Find the tutorial here.

7. DIY Stitching Boards: These stitching boards are a great way to keep little hands busy, and they are perfect for helping to build find motor skills! Find the tutorial here.

8. DIY A-frame Tent: This tent was a major hit in our house and I was shocked at how easy it was to assemble! My kids love it for make believe or just a fun place to read a book! Find it right here.

That’s it! Now get out there and slay that cabin fever! (And if these ideas don’t work, just lock yourself in the bathroom with a Snickers and a Diet Coke. These are desperate times.) Don’t forget to share with us on social media at @prettylifegirls if you make any of these projects! We’d love to see!

Happy Making!
