Have you heard about the Silhouette Mystery Boxes? If not, a Mystery Box is an assorted box of Silhouette tools, supplies, and accessories that are all a mystery, so when mail day comes it basically feels like Christmas.

Mystery Boxes go on sale tomorrow, as part of the Silhouette September Elite Sale, and you can choose from two options: the small box (which includes over $100 worth of products) for $49.99, or the large box (which includes over $200 worth of products) for $99.99. I got a small box and it had allllllll of this:

  • Tattoo Paper ($12.99)
  • Printable Adhesive Kraft Paper ($6.99)
  • Sticker Sampler Pack ($14.99)
  • Leatherette Sheets ($6.99)
  • Jewelry Making Starter Kit ($39.99)
  • Basic Sketch Pens ($9.99)
  • Metallic Sketch Pens ($3.50)
  • Neon Sketch Pens ($3.50)
  • Black & White Sketch Pens ($6.99)

That’s a value of a little over $105, and so many fun things to play with! So, play with them, I did. Which is how these Tattoo Monogram Mugs came to be! Keep scrolling for the full tutorial, and click here to order your own Mystery Box!

Supplies need to make your own Temporary Tattoo Monogram Mugs:

Silhouette Tattoo Paper (I used Silver for this tutorial)
Cutting machine (I used my Silhouette CAMEO 3)
Blank mugs
Dishwasher-safe Mod Podge + brush

Step 1: Cut your design (don’t forget to mirror!) out of the tattoo paper. I used these gorgeous monograms by Lizzie Mayne, which turned out beautiful.

Step 2: Remove the plastic sheet to expose the tacky side of the paper.

Step 3: Stick the paper on the mug. And dab gently with a damp cloth or paper towel. It doesn’t take much to get the tattoo off. Be careful not to over-wet it, which might cause it to slip around.

Step 4: When the paper appears to be saturated, peel it off the mug.

Step 5: Dab the mug dry. Then apply Dishwasher-safe Mod Podge over the tattoo. Apply 2-3 coats, drying 1-2 hours between each coat. Note that the Mod Podge needs to cure for 28 days before it will be completely dishwasher-safe.

Look how beautiful! These mugs are so easy to make using the Silhouette Tattoo Paper. I made them with some friends in mind, and I think they will make wonderful, personalized gifts.

Happy crafting!
xo, Sam

If you were making mugs to sell, would you use the temporary tattoo paper or would you use waterproof vinyl?

    Thanks!

I would probably do permanent adhesive vinyl – it holds up really well!ReplyCancel

Can I use the same method using tattoo paper and dishwasher-safe mod podge on clear wine glasses?ReplyCancel

We’ve never tried on glass! I would be afraid that the mod podge wouldn’t be completely clear or completely smooth!ReplyCancel
