DIY Back-to-School Stitched Notebooks

Even though I haven’t been a student for years, I can’t get enough of the school supplies aisle when it is back to school time. I love fresh folders and binders and erasers and pens and have a real hard time exercising restraint when I see the stacks of brightly colored notebooks and highlighters move to the front of the store. So, as a result of my love for the back to school aisle, today we are teaming up with Pilot G2 Pens (my favorite pen EVER) to share a DIY project perfect for the students or for the student at heart: DIY Stitched Notebooks!

This whole project started when I found some simple white notebooks in the school supply aisle that I knew would be darling with a little upgrade. Plus, they are the perfect partner for Pilot G2 Pens, my first choice in pens for as long as I can remember. Pilot G2 Pens have four point sizes and 15 vibrant colors, plus there are multiple collection options to customize the writing experience. On top of that they are the smoothest pens you’ll find which means your writing on the inside of these notebooks will be as pretty as the outside.

Here’s how you make them:

Supplies needed

Blank notebooks
Patterned paper
Mod Podge + Brush
Tack or pin
Embroidery floss
Needle

How to make DIY Stitched Notebooks

1. Cut out the shape you would like on your notebooks from your patterned paper. I cut mine with my Silhouette Portrait but you can easily cut something by hand as well.

2. Apply paper shape to the top of the notebook according to Mod Podge package directions (you can find great tips of Mod Podge application here). Let dry completely.

3. Using a needle or a tack, poke holes where you want to stitch. I did two rows around the hearts and some accent stitches on the inside.

4. Stitch your design according to the holes you poked. Once completed, cut the ends of the floss on the inside cover. If desired, use white sticker paper or white paper and a glue gun to cover the inside stitching.
