I love decorating my house for Christmas, and I love making new Christmas decorations each year! Right now I’m completely obsessed with making chalkboards and using chalk paint on everything because it requires zero prep, is easy to use, dries quickly, and looks awesome. Just recently I was looking for Christmas Chalkboard Ideas and was inspired to make this new DIY Christmas chalkboard sign! Keep scrolling to see how how I did it!

How to make a Christmas Chalkboard Sign

Step 1: Paint your board with the chalkboard paint. Allow to dry and apply additional coats according to the instructions on the label.

Step 2: Once the paint has dried completely, prime the chalkboard by rubbing chalk on it and wiping it all around with a paper towel or dry rag.

Step 3: At this point, you could draw or stencil on your new chalkboard with actual chalk, but I chose to stencil with paint because I don’t have hand lettering skills and I wanted the design to be permanent. Arrange the stencil on the wood and secure with tape. Load white paint on a sponge brush, then dab the brush on a paper plate or palette to remove the excess paint. Apply the paint to the stencil in multiple light layers. Remove the stencil after applying.

Step 4: Let paint dry completely. At this point you could also seal the design with a protective clear spray.
