A Visit to Washington DC

If you are stuck in a snow globe like Sam is today then maybe you could use a little e-getaway, and because I care about you, dear reader, I am here to give you one. A couple of weeks ago I got the chance to team up with our friends at the incredible Wyndham Vacation Resorts and show mine and Sam’s parents around Washington D.C. for their very first time! It was such a magical trip and I’m so excited to share it with you.

If you have ever been to Washington D.C. then you know there are a number of great neighborhoods to choose from, and while we have stayed in a few, we are now 100% sold on staying in National Harbor. National Harbor is the most gorgeous area right on the water front with amazing restaurants, shopping, and insanely gorgeous views. Wyndham Vacation Resorts has the most wonderful property in the heart of National Harbor that was so perfect for our stay (To see more pictures and learn about the property visit their site here). I can’t say enough about how helpful, friendly, and fun the staff was there, doing all they could to make sure our kids were happy and that we had everything we needed.
Staying at the Wyndham was perfect for a multiple-family group like ours because there was so much room in our lovely condo. Super spacious, with multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, and a fully-stocked kitchen and dining room, the condos at the resort are another level. Plus, the resort made our kid’s lives with their arcade, playroom, game nights, and gorgeous swimming pools. Sometimes we wished there wasn’t so much to do and see in DC because we wanted to just stay in the condo, but alas, there were statues of presidents calling our names. Luckily, the resort had a free shuttle that dropped us right at the closest metro so getting around to see said presidents was a piece of cake.

Staying at the Wyndham was so fun because it was in walking distance of the pier at National Harbor and one of the coolest parts about that is the Capital Wheel. This thing is a massive ferris wheel with gondolas that fit up to 8 people! My kids were beside themselves riding this thing and the views were completely insane. This is a must-do if you are in the area.
See, I told you. That is joy right there.
The view from the top! So gorgeous.

There are lots of great restaurants all over DC so it is reeeeally difficult to nail down a list. However, we never visit DC without visiting Founding Farmers for their chicken and waffles. It is off. the. hook. You HAVE to go if you are visiting, just be sure to make a reservation!

And, duh, we always make time for Shake Shack.

Of course shopping and eating in Georgetown has to be on your list when you visit. Every time I visit DC I look forward to strolling through the area and getting a brownie (or 3) at Dean & Deluca.

That’s our Momma! Total babe.

Everytime we visit DC there is always a line out the door at Georgetown Cupcake, but listen, WAIT IN IT. The pumpkin cheesecake cupcake I had on this trip was like heaven and Saturday morning, and a three-day-weekend in a cupcake liner. They are not overrated. You gotta go.
Willa Mae loved the Lincoln Memorial. Baby genius.

We love to visit the Washington DC, LDS temple when we visit DC. The area the temple is in is gorgeous and the grounds are so peaceful. Plus, if you aren’t LDS there is a great visitors center next door that anyone can visit!

Nailed the perfect family picture, per usual.
SIGH. Such a lovely trip. I can’t wait to go back!
Thank you, thank you to Wyndham Vacation Resorts for letting us stay at your incredible property. That place is not to be missed if you are planning a trip. And sure to keep up with Wyndham on TwitterFacebookand Instagram to see their gorgeous properties and see what they are up to!
What are you favorite things to do and see in DC? I want to add them to my list!

ox. Liz

i work in DC and live in a MD suburb (we would like to lay claim to National Harbor and the LDS Temple, since technically they're on MD, not DC!) and girl, you are SO RIGHT about the chicken-n-waffles at Founding Farmers. they are seriously OFF THE CHAIN! i just had lunch, and you already have me craving them!
the funny thing for those of us who live here (and moreso for folks like me who grew up here) is that visitors often see more sights in the city than we do! for example — ive never seen the capital wheel, and the last time i saw the lincoln memorial, i was probably willa mae's age!
    its a tragedy, isnt it?!

so glad you enjoyed your trip here. 🙂ReplyCancel

Man, oh man. I love DC. I don't think we went to National Harbor a single time though, and it looks like we missed out. Glad you had a fun time and that your parents got to go with you. So fun!ReplyCancel
