Red Velvet Fudge Milkshakes

Let’s be real for a second. These were BOMB. Just so freaking delicious I could hardly stand it. However, photographing a frozen beverage was uncharted territory for me, and it was beyond my capacity as any kind of photographer. You see, milkshakes melt. Fast. Also, they really only look delicious for 3 seconds after you pour them in a cup, therefore there was lots of prego running/waddling involved in an attempt to hurry and get the pictures. And lots of dripping of pink and brown and white on counter tops and hands and floors. Also, LOOOTS of tongue biting so as not to use salty language around a tiny toddler. It was hard. I was tired after. It’s a good thing I had two glasses of milkshake laying around after because I NEEDED IT.
However, if you plan to make these and not take pictures of them you are in luck because they are YUMMY and easy and perfect for your Valentines celebration.
I sort of find it difficult to share a milkshake recipe in this kind of forum, mostly because I take milkshakes seriously, and feel that they are quite personal. I mean, who am I to tell you how much hot fudge you should add to make your perfect milkshake? Who am I to give you exact measurements of ice cream? So, know that I am giving you the parameters I used, but you shouldn’t feel restricted by them. You make your milkshake how you want to make it and you don’t answer to NOBODY. Anyway. Here’s the recipe:

PLA Cooks: Red Velvet Fudge Milkshakes
(Serves 2-3)
3-4 c. Ice Cream (I used fudge ripple because I had it laying around, but I have seen similar recipes that used cake batter, chocolate, or plain vanilla. I don’t think you can go wrong on an ice cream choice with this.)
1/2 c. Red Velvet Dry Cake Mix
1 c. Milk
1 c. Hot Fudge
Combine all ingredients in blender, but only 1/2 c. of hot fudge, reserving the other half for serving. Blend until smooth. Use remaining 1/2 c. of fudge to layer in glasses with milkshake. For example, pour hot fudge in bottom of glass, then milkshake, then hot fudge, then milkshake, until you can’t handle it anymore and you just gotta eat those suckers. Top with whipped cream + sprinkles if you are festive like that.

So good. If I didn’t have a really good looking husband I would ask these babies to be my Valentines. Then I turn on them and eat them, and I wouldn’t even feel bad about it because YUM.
